![]() The new SEDCO business premises in Membakut would provide more business opportunities for local traders and improve facility for road users. Located midway between the State Capital Kota Kinabalu and both gateway towns of Sipitang and Menumbok, it would also become an ideal stopover for tourists and travellers from Brunei, Sarawak, Labuan and from Kota Kinabalu itself. Launching the project on October 28, 2009, SEDCO Chairman, Datuk Hj Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said the development was another effort of SEDCO to spur economic activities in the district as well as to provide travelers and road users with a well-equipped R & R facility. Situated right by the roadside, the project will comprise multiple business lots, a surau, an administration office, a restroom and parking spaces.
According to Datuk Hj Arifin even a remote place can draw people to stop by if it has appealing products and, quality services and facilities. Datuk Hj Mohd Arifin who is also the assemblyman of Membakut said traditional foods like ámbuyat’ (a dish made of Sago) and ‘lauk salai’(smoked fish) are among local specialties that can be promoted to travelers and tourists at the premises.
Datuk Hj Mohd Arifin however reminded that the success of the premises called for the whole-heartedness of the future operators in running their business. “Apart from attractive products and excellent facilities, special attention must always be given to the liveliness and cleanliness of the premises”, he stressed.
The project is being implemented by SEDCO’s subsidiary Sedcovest Holdings Sdn Bhd and is scheduled for completion by the middle of 2010. |
