SEDCO PAYS RM7M LOAN TO STATE GOVERNMENT PDF Print E-mail

Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) presented its loan repayment of RM7 million to the State Government in a brief ceremony at the State Legislatively Assembly Building recently.   SEDCO Chairman, Datuk Hj Mohd Arifin Hj Md Arif handed over the payment to the Permanent Secretary of the Finance Ministry, Datuk Pg Hassanel Tahir.  Present to witness the occasion, Chief Minister cum Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, Minister of Industrial Development, Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, SEDCO Group General Manager, Maisuri bin Besri as well as board of directors and senior officials of SEDCO and the Finance Ministry.

The fourth of a six-part monthly series on SEDCO featuring its contribution to Sabah’s economic development

The Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) was incorporated on 21 December 1971. Even at that early stage it had envisaged the path the state would need to take for the enhancement of the Bumiputera community’s participation and stake in Sabah’s economic development. SEDCO deliberately targeted two sectors – the development of commercial shops and industrial estates and trading in construction materials and consumer goods. It was felt that these two sectors offered the best  opportunity and widest scope for the development of an entrepreneurial, commercial and industrial class of local Bumiputera businessmen and businesswomen.

The third of a six-part monthly series on SEDCO featuring its contribution to Sabah’s economic development

If any sector of Sabah’s economy has been more positively impacted than others by the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO), it is the services sector. The successes achieved by SEDCO over forty years and the current pattern of Sabah’s economic progress testifies to this. Today the services sector accounts for almost 50% of the State’s GDP and employs some 640,000 persons or 53.3% of the work force.
